I have noticed over time that I have a strange menagerie of words and phrase I throw out there all the time. Some I've heard, some I've made up, all are either really ancient or just totally bizarre. Having realized just how funny some of them are, I thought I would share them with you. I confess, many of them developed at a time when I was trying to stop swearing so much. Some of you may be shocked to learn that in my early high school days I enjoyed the vocabulary of a sea farer. When I realized just how awful and uneducated I sounded I needed to come up with alternatives, things that would really stick in your mind, much more than any swear word therefore being the first thing that pops into mind when the proper situation arises. I promise you these are real things I say, the timing and frequency may vary but they do escape my lips. After typing them out I realize that I no longer sound awful when I speak but I am not sure if changing my language did anything to help me sound more educated- hahaha!
- Bru-hockey: meaning it's bunk, garbage, a real crummy situation, "that's bru-hockey". Another variation on this is "bull-honkey", same meaning. A friend recently pointed out she thought my "bru-hockey" was from the phrase "bull-hockey", that makes both phrases make sense, well make sense in that I obviously confused them both in my younger mind and this is what I ended up with haha!
- Golly-gee-willikers: astonishing, takes you by surprise or something that stumps you; "golly-gee-willikers that was a crazy game!" or "golly-gee-willikers I have NO idea where I left my keys! Sometimes it is combined as such "golly-gee-willikers batman", no I am not a personal friend of the caped crusader, no I cannot explain to you why I throw that in there. You will soon see I like to end many of my exclaimative (that's a word I just made up) phrases with "batman". The only explanation I can think of is that I used to watch the show with Adam West as a kid and Robin always ended his phrases with it.
- Son of a biscuit or son of a biscuit eating basket ball player: shoot! darn! Ok, it's kinda a replacement for son of a something else, but that's not how I intended it, it's just what came out of my mouth one day after stubbing my toe. Yes, I really do say it lol.
- Holy cannoli: WOW! Crazy! Sometimes it means something that is an exhausting task, example "holy cannoli I have a lot of housework to do!". This can also be ended with "batman".
- Moo point: this I heard on an episode of FRIENDS and I loved it, not to mention I hate trying to say "mute", I don't know why that word bugs me (I know what you're thinking, this from a woman who says golly-gee-willikers). Anyway, it means the same thing ultimately the definition is this; it's a cow's opinion, it just doesn't matter, it's moo.
- Poopy diapers batman: meaning shoot, darn! Again, I suppose it's a replacement for the naughtier version of poop but I think it's pretty mild. (I told you I like batman haha!)
- Codswallop: yeah I know, I have no idea where I came up with that one. It means (in my head) basically that's ridiculous. I use it a lot when my kids are being mellow dramatic, "oh codswallop you're not going to die if you don't get a candy".
- Gooberknocker: yeah....I know. :) This word means goofball, silly kid, it goes a long those lines. I call my kids gooberknockers a lot. Poor things, they are going to get made fun of someday when a kid calls them a name and this is what they come back with. Although when I use it it's really a term of endearment in a sense, I am not meaning it demeaningly (is that even a word? my spell check didn't freak out so maybe so).
- Dingleberry: I know I didn't make this one up and I know it is technically the term for a little piece of poop that stinks to the hair around an animals bum but it's not how I use it. I am sure that is no excuse but oh well, dingleberry in my vocabulary runs a long the same lines as gooberknocker, still I know I should probably stop saying it. There are worse things I could utter though...right?
There you have it, a list of funny words or phrases I use on a regular basis. Feel free to add them to your own vocabulary, I know you really want to ;-). No body ever said I was normal, with a nickname like "Neener" (which I honestly love) what did you expect? Actual words? hahahahah! To those of you who know me well, feel free to add some that I've forgotten, I am sure something will fly out of my mouth later that I total blanked I say. I would love to hear any words/phrases you may say from time to time, or if you have a guess to the origin of any of the phrases I use, like "bull-hockey" please share. I started writing this blog yesterday and dreamt last night I had a swearing problem again, weird how the mind works. I assure you I have not reverted to my sailor-like ways, with words like these in my arsenal why would I need to?
Hahaha! Gooberknocker. Hahahaha!
