This year was Isaiah's first year of school. It was really hard for me letting him go, sending him to school with strangers felt anti-mothering but I knew from the Lord that it was what was best for him, so I let him go. Thankfully, prayerfully, he has thrived in school, he LOVES it and I am so happy. When he first start though, ever day he would come home and ask me if I had gotten him anything special while he was gone. I tried to do fun things at first but, obviously, I was not going to be able to come up with something special for him every school day for 9 months. So, I stole an idea from a friend who has been writing notes on his daughter's lunch napkins for ages, I decided to put little notes in his lunch every day so he knew we were thinking about him and to make him feel special. It was a HIT. He was so surprised when he opened his lunch for the first time and found one, as time went on he started requesting certain things on his notes (making coming up with sayings *super* fun haha). I have been told by his teacher and teacher's aide that he shows them every note, every day, smiling from ear to ear. I gotta say, some days it is difficult to get them done but every time I hear from him how much he loves them, how excited he is to show EVERYONE it makes the last minute scramble some mornings worth it. It also made me realize it doesn't take much to make our kids feel loved and special, not that we should be looking for the easiest ways to do this, but sometimes I think we just forget in the business of life to be intentional about it. It's not about the size of the gesture, it's about simply making a point to make it. These little notes really didn't take much time to complete (ok a few might have but that was my problem with perfection, perfection being a relative term when you see them ;) and I am confident my son will remember them into adulthood. So, because he loves to share them, I thought I would share them too. We have been through all sorts this year so enjoy....and it's ok to laugh too :)
Some times there are themes like...

Sad bunny, cheesy phrase...he still loved it though :) |

It wasn't until after I drew one that I decided on what it would say, hence the crocodile is squatty haha |
These are SO good! You're inspiring me for next year (although if Jack goes to preschool that would mean THREE notes everyday - haha!). You are really good with those drawings, I'm completely impressed!!! :)
